A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack stopped Internet traffic company Dyn DNS only hours ago, with other websites and services on the East Coast experiencing similar problems.
DDoS attacks occurs when web providers are overwhelmed with traffic from varying sources, and serves as an effective method for digital assaults.
Dyn reported attacks as early as 7:10 this morning. Other major websites like Twitter and Amazon were stilled for two hours after an earlier DDoS attack.

The Department of Homeland Security is currently investigating the attacks against Dyn and others.

Public DNS providers struggled to get websites online earlier this morning, and are still in the process of doing so for others.
